the 911 GT1 from 1996-1998 is only partly a real 911... it use the basic stripped chassie of the 993 but it was heavly reworked into a midengine layout, the rear of the car is tube fram all covered with carbon parts.. the GT1 was not a great sussess ..it lost all FIA GT races vs the Mercedes CLK GTR.. but thanks to its outstanding relibilty Porsche won with the 911 GT1 the 24h of LeMans vs the Toyota GT-one.
